Road trip, Youmacon 2010, and the 3 Hour Cock Punch movie

Posted by Krbyfan1 - November 3rd, 2010

So this past weekend I had my first road trip. And it was quite an experience.

To begin, I had a long ass day at work Wednesday and didn't get home until late, somewhere around 10:30 PM, so I had no real time to relax before my trek, so I tried the best I could to get some rest. Unfortunately, I decided to leave at 2 AM Thursday morning, and let that set the tone for the rest of the night.

I started my travels by heading south to go east, and I ran into some strange road construction in some town I didn't care to remember the name. It wasn't updated on my GPS so there goes the theory of constant map updates. What a piece of shit.

Skip ahead a few corn fields and nameless towns and get onto I-94. I looked at my GPS and had 300 some miles to go. Oh boy. It was straight onto Michigan from here. As I went on, it was early morning and I was drifting a bit. I noticed a bunch of road kill as well. This is usually not a problem, but one time I saw what looked like a deer carcass in the middle of my lane. Lack of sleep + early morning travel + dead animal = AAAAAAHH! O_O

The miracle here is that I did not hear any thud, so there's a chance it was a hallucination. But the fact is it woke me up and kept me focused until I arrived in Canton that morning. After missing my destination, I drove on some of the weirdest streets I've ever seen. Imagine a four lane highway, two on each side, and with a left turn lane that puts you at a stop sign perpendicular with the streets, where you can only go left. I was thrown through a bit of a loop there.

I eventually get to the house I needed to go to, and wake up Little Washu. You probably remember her. We greet warmly and get ready for the day. After some breakfast and me falling asleep while she was in class, she unfortunately could not get out of work, so I spent some time with another compatriot of hers for a while. After she got home, we went to the Ren Center in Detroit.

This is when I remembered my irrational fear of open atriums. There were glass walkways and open air escalators everywhere. I almost broke down sometimes but I knew that would spoil my adventure, so I sucked it up and by the end of the trip I was fine with it. Of course going there Thursday was a bit of a waste, so we went back to rest up... for three hours.

Friday rolls around and three of us geared up and watched some Tenchi Muyo early in the morning before getting in line for registration. After the rather short wait (hooah for pre-reg ;3) we walked around for a bit. We hit the game room (which was immense compared to ACen) and visited the dealer's hall (which was not, as compared to ACen.) I got her the last set of Tenchi figurines she needed because why? Well, why not? A Guinea Pig has to treat his scientist to something every once in a while!

We had some pictures taken, but we had Dr. Zoidberg with us, and he was a huge hit there for some strange reason. I reckon he was stopped somewhere between 25-50 times over the weekend for photos. Who knew?

On Friday night we attended a charity masquerade, where most of us danced until our feet hurt (mine still do...). Of course Kermit the Frog was there and stole some of the show. I swear I choose some lame ass costumes to wear. This was also topped off by a crossplay Sesshomaru who danced with some of the girls. Not sure if sexy... I mean possibly, but... I dunno.

Saturday, sadly, had some bad news with it, being that there was an old lady hit in the food court so late in the night we had security checkpoints, and if we didn't have a room key or Youmacon badge, we were turned away from even getting to the elevators. Whoever did this, way to give con goers a bad name, you asshole.

Sunday was sadly the last day of festivities, and I suffer from "Post Con Stress Disorder" or PCSD, so for most of the day I felt sad, and was not looking forward to the 5 hour drive home. But I overcame it and enjoyed the rest of my day for what it was worth. We gathered near the lobby for some last minute group photos before we sent off for the day.

When we got back to the house, I packed my car and said goodbye to everyone. I admit, I cried when I had to leave, but surprisingly not as much as I'd thought. I enjoyed myself that weekend, and everyone was extremely hospitable towards me, as if I'd known them longer than three days.

My next planned con is ACen once again, and in that time of 7 months, so much can happen. I apologize that I don't have a huge mess of pictures, as most of them were just us fucking around. But please enjoy what I do have.

Jesus
Dr. Zoidberg vs. Miku Hatsune dance-off

On top of these, I got Megaman X4 for 10 dollars and a free Ed plush in the dealers room. Not bad steals. But for now, the adventures have come to a close. Oh come on, don't be so sad. Next time will be better!

I promise :3

Sounds like a real blast, whenever I go on any kind of trip it usually ends up with me challenging my destiny or dealing with some kind of unspeakable horror that drives me to the borders of madness and questioning humanity's place in the universe.

Ahhh, but you continue and fight the good fight!

lol

OH SNAP, ANIME CONVENTION!

Is that LittleWashu with you in the picture? Just curious.

LittleWashu from the forums no.

I thought we went over this through AIM :P
